7 districts connected to rivers with a population of 1,473,911/ 2,353,000 in Phnom Penh.
Due to population and economic growth, while waste management infrastructures are still limited in some underserved poor riverine communities, Phnom Penh has become the most vulnerable hotspot for marine plastic pollution. Plastic Waste transported from the Mekong approximately 500,000 tons entering the Tonle Sap basin from 2020 to 2030. Phnom Penh contributes about 80,000 tons 2. </aside>
