The Mangrove Restoration Project by Green Brunei focuses on restoring 500 mangrove trees, which play a crucial role in carbon absorption and sequestration. The project also aims to raise awareness through educational talks and engage local communities and schools to support long-term sustainability efforts, enhancing biodiversity and mitigating climate change impacts.

- Plant 500 mangrove trees
- Engage 10 schools through educational talks/educational trips
- Recruitment of volunteers from local communities to raise and tend seedlings
- Achieve 1,000 viewers per post for online awareness campaign
- Measure the total carbon dioxide absorption of the planted mangroves.
- Establish partnerships with corporate sponsors to fund additional educational programs and expand restoration efforts.

<img src="/icons/bell-notification_pink.svg" alt="/icons/bell-notification_pink.svg" width="40px" /> Describe the kinds of help you need the most (funding, expertise, technology, access, etc).
- Green Brunei requires funding from UNDP to support the scale of the project and the implementation of our six-month strategy. We also seek additional financial assistance from corporate partners to enhance our educational programs and further expand the project.
- Green Brunei seeks technical and methodological support from experts, government agencies, and environmental professionals to ensure the success of its mangrove restoration efforts. This expertise is crucial in several areas:
- Establishing Mangrove Nurseries
- Guidance is needed on setting up and managing nurseries, including selecting appropriate species, preparing soil conditions, maintaining water salinity levels, and ensuring proper care for seedlings until they are ready for transplantation.
- Site Assessment and Location Selection
- Expertise is required to identify suitable planting locations by assessing tidal flows, salinity levels, soil types, and erosion risks. This ensures the chosen sites align with the ecological requirements of different mangrove species, maximizing survival rates and long-term sustainability.
- Best Practices for Planting Techniques
- Green Brunei seeks technical advice on correct planting methods, including spacing, root placement, and planting depth to enhance growth and resilience. Professionals can provide training to volunteers and community participants, ensuring consistent and effective restoration practices.
- Monitoring and Maintenance Plans
- Expert input is needed to design effective monitoring programs to track the growth and health of the planted mangroves. This includes developing maintenance plans to address threats such as pests, erosion, and waterlogging.

<img src="/icons/emoji-disappointed_pink.svg" alt="/icons/emoji-disappointed_pink.svg" width="40px" /> What pain points are you trying to solve?
- Degradation of mangrove ecosystems: Address the loss of biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and coastal protection caused by the degradation of mangrove forests.
- Lack of environmental awareness: Combat limited public knowledge and engagement in environmental conservation, especially among youth and communities.
- Insufficient data on carbon sequestration: Provide measurable data on the carbon offset potential of mangrove forests to support national and global climate goals.
